Guangzhou Mini 10's Tournament

As the bus pulled off the highway towards the impressive Huang Pu stadium the Shekou team thought that they had finally made it into the big time of rugby union.  However as we were ushered to the adjoining training ground, reality firmly kicked us in the rear end.

This tournament was organised firstly to fill a gap in the fixture list and secondly to welcome the guys from Daya Bay into the South China rugby scene.  The four participating teams were: Shekou Rugby, Guangzhou Rams, Daya Bay, GZ Agricultural College. 

Game 1 - Shekou vs Guangzhou Rams

This game was to be the deciding fixture for 2001 between Shekou and the Rams.  It turned out to be a good physical encounter with some good all round play from both sides creating 6 tries in the match.  Final score: 15 - 15.

Game 2 - Shekou vs Daya Bay

Another good physical match with Shekou just getting the upper hand in a 20 - 10 victory.

Game 3 - Shekou vs GZ Ag. College

Cancelled due to bad light.

All in all this was a very enjoyable day for everyone involved with the enjoyment carrying on to the post match dinner in Guangzhou.  It was also a successful day for Shekou Rugby as we were declared tournament winners by default.
